Well, who would have thought 2020 would have unfolded the way it did. Back in January I got myself super organised and had a full programme of gigs in the diary. Come March the writing was on the wall and C.19 put paid to my cunning plan. That said, 2020 wasn't entirely gig-free, DBTR did manage to put two gigs on this year.
Where is the voice of the excluded that the Sex Pistols and the Specials once so beautifully articulated? Does that voice still have a place in today's pop culture? Does pop music still have any meaning?
Perhaps it is something about the fragility of the solo performer, often being so honest and heartfelt it touches something deep inside. Songs delivered in a political context, songs about love and love-lost, songs so cryptic its hard to tell what they are about but there is something that always draws me in
